The purpose of an assessment
|
| |
An assessment can be very helpful, especially for new authors, in picking up areas in the manuscript where further work needs to be undertaken to fine-tune the structure of the plot, characterisations and writing skills. A manuscript presented to a publisher for possible publication is often looked upon more favourably if accompanied by a professional assessment. Even if the assessment is not so favourable, it gives the writer an opportunity to discover where they might be going wrong so that when they finally present the finished manuscript, it is the best it can be.

What you will receive
|
| |
You will receive a formal written 3,000 - 5,000 word report supplied to you electronically via email. The assessment will deal with the following areas:
Overview An overall introduction to the manuscript Title Suitability of title Possible title suggestions Presentation Layout of manuscript Correct format Structure Organisation & flow Plot Strengths & Weaknesses Plot progression Themes and purpose Language Suitability Expression Viewpoint Point of view Writing Skills Expression & Style Grammar Punctuation Characterisation Strengths & Weaknesses As related to plot Conclusion Is this manuscript worthy of publication?

|
How about an informal report?
|
| |
An alternative to a full assessment is a reading. These are charged on an hourly rate, therefore even partial manuscripts can be assessed. An informal report is provided to you electronically with suggestions on how to improve your work, suitability for publication, problems with plot or characterisations, or answers to any specific questions you wish to have answered. Often a cheaper but just as useful alternative for those writers with 'works in progress'.
